The new house with pics

Click on the picture below to see our Picasa album full of new pictures of our new house. We are so blessed to have this large location, and we know God will fill it full of people hungry for His Word and Christian fellowship. We will be hosting a weekly Bible study here and reaching out to our neighborhood, but still focusing on the work in Key West at the Gospel Chapel.

We just wanted to share with everyone.

A new house... really!

Much has transpired since our last post just a week or so ago. We were promised the trailer that I spoke about last week, but when we went to see the landlord to put our deposit down, we were told they were now taking applications. Even though we were the first to call, and had already been promised the place, evidently the Lord was changing gears in the background. The landlord never returned our calls and refused to answer the phone, very mysteriously. Dozens of other apartments, condos, trailers, and houses also eluded our grasp. After much prayer, we widened our target area, and found a few places farther out of Key West.

It was after that widening of the search, along with dozens more calls, emails, and house showings, that we found a house for rent on Cudjoe Key. Cudjoe is about 14 miles from many of those in fellowship at the chapel, and 20 miles from the chapel itself. There is not a single church on Cudjoe Key, with 1700 full time residents, and about 800 short term rentals, so we prayed long and hard about whether this might be a good place to extend our outreach if this was to be our new home.

Today, we signed a rental agreement for a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. The house, located at 110 Doubloon Lane, is just off Jolly Roger Road, after you turn off Cut Throat Road (check Google Maps, I couldn't make this stuff up!) at the end of a dead end canal road. So, we are a block from the Atlantic Ocean, with a canal in our back yard on two sides. There is a large driveway (good for parking cars for Bible studies), a large yard, and a very nice neighborhood. We praise the Lord for His provision!

So, we will no longer be living in Key West proper, but we will continue the ministries at the chapel building for the most part, with some weekly studies moving to our home or the homes of others that are more centrally located. We may be moving our kids club to Stock Island, which will open more doors for outreach in that area. Also we will be doing door to door outreach in new neighborhood along with the many ministry opportunities that are based out of our home, wherever we happen to be parked. The Lord has never left us lacking in people to reach with the Gospel, but this is the first time we have lived on an island with NO churches.

We thank the Lord for this place, and even for closing the doors in other locations. Though it has been very frustrating to find a new home, we have been spending much time in prayer before the Lord for direction, wisdom, and just learning to trust Him more day by day. We know He is in this decision, and God was gracious enough to not make us wonder too hard about which door to choose, leaving only one out of dozens that we could possibly choose.

We had wanted to find a more permanent place anyway, but some recent problems with zoning at the chapel left us forced to find a new home before May 11. Please pray for the saints at the Gospel Chapel as we all pray and seek God's wisdom in dealing with the management and stewardship of the chapel property. Thank you all for your prayers, support, and gifts of love to our family. Feel free to write or call. We will still be able to get mail at the chapel, but will have mail sent to the house primarily. The address is below.

A new home

*After this post was written, we ended up not getting the rental. That is a long story, but we are still on the search to find where God wants us to live. Will update the blog when we find a home... and actually have a signed rental agreement...*

We have been searching the newspapers and craigslist for an apartment, house, trailer, some place for our family to live as we transition to a more permanent place in Key West. The cottage at the Gospel Chapel has served us well, but now it is time for our family to have a place of our own, and another mission field to reach. We were told when we moved here to work with the saints in Key West that Stock Island was a place with great needs and opportunities for the Gospel outreach.

We were out on Stock Island (about 4 miles from the chapel building) to visit Nancy, a lady from the chapel, when we happened upon a trailer for rent. We had been looking at a lot near there, and saw the sign. The place was open (repairs being done) so we looked around. This trailer will suit our needs and give us a place to call home. It is a place that gives us a chance to add our own touch to many aspects of the house (could also be phrased that we have a lot of work to do) and will give us new contacts and adventures.

The trailer is on Miriam Street and has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, a little outbuilding for storage, along with a few chicken coops? and a small yard that is fenced in. For now we have cleaning, painting, and finding furniture as some of the first priorities. We have already been offered some help with repairs, cleaning, etc. which is such a blessing. We have friends here in many trades and hope this will be a good chance to work together with those who have offered help before.

As we prepare for a move, we are sure of God's leading in this new home for us. He has prepared the way, given us all we need while we got settled in to our new home town, and now has prepared for us to minister in this community and the Gospel Chapel for the long term. Pray with us for the Lord to raise up leadership for the saints in Key West at the Gospel Chapel, for unity among the saints as we labor together, and for fruit from the Gospel proclamation. God has abundantly supplied all our needs, physically, financially, spiritually, and in every other way. He is faithful who has called us, and He will continue to lead the way if we submit ourselves daily to His will and His work.

Grace and peace to you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Rock and our Salvation,

Mark and Sara for the Cowperthwaite family

A call to purity and accountability

A comment from this video:

  • I agree 100% Thank you for speaking up. At the same time, I wish to mention my abhorance for men who go without shirts, yes, even if working in the yard 'trying to get a good tan.'. It goes both ways. I am wholeheartedly raising our 9 children to be modest people. I'm glad others are out there with the same thoughts. Thanks again. I'll pass this on.
  • @TheRevanRock Amen! I agree. Men have a responsibility in being modest as well. Thanks for sharing!
